Unfortunately, there is sparse literature published on the pharmaceutical enablers that may increase the sale of a substandard and falsified (SF) medicine to a patient in Kenya. The purpose of the study was to analyze the factors affecting sustainable growth of local pharmaceutical manufacturing companies by determining and establishing their influence on sustainable growth of these firms in Kenya. The East African Community (EAC), made up of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda, represents one the smaller sub-regions in SSA in value terms, both economically and from a pharmaceutical viewpoint. The total value of EAC's pharmaceutical market in 2017 was just USD2.1bn, which corresponds to 17% of SSA’s total medicine expenditure that year. Forecasts show that the market would nearly double to yield a market size of USD4.1bn by 2027, at which point the EAC will still represent a relatively minor proportion of SSA’s pharmaceutical market (19%).
