Prepared By Kenya National Bureau of Statistics - 2025
Crop production experienced varied trends: sugarcane production surged by 68.7%, rice increased by 23.2%, green leaf tea by 4.2%, and coffee by 1.6%. Wheat remained stable with a slight 0.9% rise. However, maize production declined by 6.1%, and fresh horticultural produce dropped by 14.1%. Despite these mixed results, marketed agricultural production grew by 7.2%, reaching KSh 690 billion, though overall sector growth slowed to 4.4% in 2024 from 7.1% in 2023.

The livestock subsector demonstrated robust growth, with honey production up 13.5% and beeswax increasing by 25.8%, reflecting expansion in apiculture. Meat production also rose, with cattle and calves slaughtered increasing by 17.9% and camels by 29.9%, the highest increase recorded. Marketed milk production grew by 12.0%, indicating enhanced dairy output. These gains in livestock contributed positively to the sector’s overall performance, supporting food security and economic resilience amid fluctuating crop outputs.

Together, these data underscore the agriculture sector’s vital role in Kenya’s economy, highlighting areas of strength and challenges that inform policy and investment decisions aimed at sustaining growth and improving livelihoods.
